VRA handles direct charter traffic from Canada (Sunwing, Air Canada Rouge, Transat), the UK (TUI, Thomas Cook's successor brands), Germany, Russia and several smaller European markets — the volume is heavily seasonal with the November-April winter-charter peak driving the airport's busiest period. The VRA-to-Varadero transfer is longer than Varadero's geographic position suggests because the airport is set inland from the northern coast — the A1 autopista runs the main connection, with the approach to the peninsula via the southern entrance road at the base of the sand spit. At the Airport
VRA's single passenger terminal is compact and purpose-built for charter-arrival throughput — the flow from customs through baggage claim to the ground-transport exit runs quickly even during Saturday rotation peaks. Free Wi-Fi requires ETECSA Nauta card (for sale at the airport counter). Currency exchange at the rank runs poor rates; bring EUR cash or use a hotel Cadeca counter for better exchange.
