At the Airport

KIN's single passenger terminal has arrivals on the ground floor with the meet-and-greet area immediately after customs. The walk from baggage to the ground transport zone is short — roughly 60 metres, fully covered. Currency exchange at arrivals runs poor rates; Jamaican dollar ATMs are inside the landside area. The Palisadoes causeway is the only road in or out of KIN — occasional flooding in the hurricane season (June–November, peak August–October) can temporarily close the causeway, though these events are short-lived and airport operations adapt with shuttle buses when necessary. KIN — Blue Mountains and Port Antonio are east of Kingston, 60–90 min and 2–2.5 hours. From MBJ the same destinations run 5–6 hours each way. Most Blue Mountains / Port Antonio visitors fly KIN via US east-coast connection (Miami, New York, Atlanta). KIN is also significantly less crowded on arrival than MBJ's Saturday rotation banks.

Is Port Royal worth a stop between KIN and Kingston?

Yes for a 45-min to 1-hour detour — Port Royal is 6 km from KIN at the Palisadoes end, the main English pirate port in the Caribbean until the 1692 earthquake. Fort Charles (17th-c artillery) and Giddy House (knocked askew by a 1907 quake) are the standing sights; Gloria's Top Spot and Y-Knot for seafood.
