Getting from Málaga Airport to the Costa del Sol

The Cercanías C1 train links the airport to Málaga Centro-Alameda and María Zambrano station in about 12 minutes, continuing down the coast to Torremolinos and Fuengirola, and the EMT bus serves the city centre. For resorts further along, Marbella and Nerja among them, there is no direct rail at all, which is why the road transfer is the usual choice rather than a preference.

The shared shuttle problem

Charter traffic here comes with charter transport: shuttles that fill up, then work their way along the coast dropping passengers at a dozen hotels. If yours is the last stop, a 40-minute drive to Marbella becomes an hour and a half at the end of a travel day. Golf, villas and oversized luggage

The Costa del Sol has dozens of courses within an hour of the airport, and golf bags are the standard awkward case: they do not fit in a sedan alongside suitcases. It is worth knowing which way you are heading, because two resorts an equal number of kilometres from the terminal can differ by twenty minutes in practice.

Late-night charter arrivals
