Uzbekistan's international traffic runs through three Silk Road cities, each with its own airport: Tashkent (TAS) as the country's main hub with most long-haul routes; Samarkand (SKD) serving direct regional arrivals and growing international traffic; Bukhara (BHK) on the western edge serving the oldest of the Silk Road cities. The domestic Afrosiyob high-speed train links all three and is the standard way independent travellers move between them (Tashkent-Samarkand 2h 20, Samarkand-Bukhara 1h 40, Tashkent-Bukhara 4h direct). Yandex Go is the dominant rideshare app; official airport taxis are plentiful but metered tariffs can vary with negotiation. Most Western nationals enter visa-free for 30 days. Tashkent (TAS): The National Hub

TAS is 15 kilometres south-east of central Tashkent and handles the majority of international routes — flights from Istanbul, Dubai, Seoul, Frankfurt, Moscow, New York (seasonal), Delhi, Almaty. Tashkent itself mixes Soviet-era boulevards with new post-independence monuments; Khast Imom religious complex, Chorsu Bazaar and the Tashkent Metro (famously ornate stations) are the main city stops. Transfer time to central Tashkent hotels is 25 to 40 minutes depending on Amir Timur highway traffic.

Samarkand (SKD): The Registan Gateway

Samarkand International Airport is 7 kilometres north-west of the city — among the shortest airport-to-city runs in Central Asia. Transfer times to hotels near the Registan are 10 to 20 minutes. SKD's international traffic has grown since the opening of a modern terminal in 2022; direct flights from Istanbul, Dubai, Moscow, Frankfurt and Seoul now supplement the Tashkent connection. Most visitors still fly into TAS and continue to Samarkand on the Afrosiyob high-speed train; direct SKD arrivals suit travellers who want to skip Tashkent.

Bukhara (BHK): The Old City

Bukhara International Airport is 7 kilometres east of the city — again a very short transfer (10–20 minutes to the old-town hotels around Lyabi Hauz and Po-i-Kalyan). BHK runs a limited international schedule with most traffic routed through TAS or SKD and onward by Afrosiyob train. Flights from Istanbul, Moscow and seasonally from a handful of European charter operators run direct. A pre-booked private transfer is the standard arrangement for BHK arrivals because airport taxi supply is thinner than Tashkent or Samarkand.
